In the Winter
- Warming winter will continue to bring more rain and less snow to Maine. This action alone will shorten the Winter season for snowmobiling, snowboarding/skiing, ice fishing, and many other winter activities.
The shorting of the ice fishing season may become more dangerous. If the ice is melting much sooner and it’s less predicable it could cause more accidental deaths for people not only in Maine but throughout New England. This could cause many Mainers to stop ice fishing if it is unsafe. Ice fishing lets little family owned companies have a chance to more money. Many people get bait license’s to hold lots of bait and sell it, this money people make could either be just extra money they want or it could really be someone trying so hard to make a living. This opportunity could be taken away from them if we don’t ALL make the changes to a more sustainable life.
Shorten winters also effects snowboarding/skiing and snowmobiling, without a “decent” winter season the entire town is normally hurting. With a town like Rangeley that host so many different Winter events, from the Cystic Fibrosis ride, the annual Pond Hockey tournament, Snodeo, and many other events, it would cripple the town if there is a bad winter. Back in 2015 when there was a brown Christmas, hardly any snow that Winter, everyone was desperately hoping for an amazing summer with little rain.
